Loretta Naranjo-Lopez
Candidate for Bernalillo County Commission, ENM '08'

Loretta Naranjo-Lopez is a native Albuquerquean and fifth generation Martinez from Martineztown and is running for County Commission.

In 2003, she retired from the City of Albuquerque after 25 years of service.   She received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1996 and a Master of Community and Regional Planning in 2000 from the University of New Mexico.  Her interest in politics began in 1976 when she participated in the YMCA Youth in Government Program.  

She also served on the Public Employees Retirement Association board as the representative for Retirees from 2005 to 2008.  In 2006, she ran a grassroots campaign for the Bernalillo County Commissioner seat in District 1.  She lost by a very small margin, but now, equipped with the skills and knowledge from her Emerge New Mexico training, she plans to win in 2010!     

Loretta belongs to the San Ignacio/Albuquerque Interfaith - Community building through community organizing.  She is an AFSCME Retiree, and in 2001, she served as the first President of AFSCME Local 3022 bargaining for employee benefit improvements. 

For eight years from 1992 to 2000, Loretta was on the Greater Albuquerque Housing Partnership Board and directed the development of affordable housing.
