Current Candidates

  • Loretta Naranjo-Lopez

    Loretta Naranjo-Lopez is a native Albuquerquean and fifth generation Martinez from Martineztown and is running for County Commission.

    In 2003, she retired from the City of Albuquerque after 25 years of service.   She received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1996 and a Master of Community and Regional Planning in 2000 from the University of New Mexico.  Her interest in politics began in 1976 when she participated in the YMCA Youth in Government Program.

  • Stephanie Richard

    Stephanie is running for the state legislature and is a native New Mexican who grew up in Silver City, New Mexico.  It was there, that Stephanie learned from her mother and father the most important lesson in life; service to others is more valuable than service to self. 

    After high school Stephanie left home to go to college and graduated from Columbia University in New York and later from California State University-Los Angeles.  She ended up following her father into education and becoming a teacher.  After years of living and working abroad and in other states Stephanie and her husband chose to come home to New Mexico and raise their family.

  • Roxanne Lara
    Eddy County Commissioner

    Roxanne was elected to the Eddy County Commission in 2008, after contested races at the primary and general levels. She currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and owns and operates Lara Law Firm.

     

    Roxanne also serves her community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Downtown Lions Club and as Vice-President of the Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation Board of Directors, as well as various other organizations. She was born and raised in Eddy County and is married to the man of her dreams, Leo Lara. They have three dogs and love to spend their time enjoying the many amenities of Carlsbad!

  • Karen Giannini
    New Mexico State House of Representatives

    Karen Giannini (2007) has been called the "improbable dragon slayer." She won her seat in the New Mexico State House of Representatives in 2008 by defeating an incumbent Republican that everyone thought was completely and totally safe!  She spent a total of $450 to his $30,000. 

    An Air Force veteran and divorced mother of three, she credits the Emerge New Mexico program with her success.  She said for a newbie like herself, having the best political trainers and a powerful network to support her effort, made all the difference.
